Viral Meningitis?

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

-v- went to go visit Ezra at daycare yesterday hoping to have a happy lunch full of Ezra Smiles only to have a bad lunch when she was told by the people of the daycare that the regular daycare teacher had been out sick since Friday because she had viral meningitis. While viral meningitis is not bacterial meningitis it still something that can cause fever and pain to Ezra, which is never good.

I having had bacterial meningitis years ago freaked out and had to read every website I could find to be sure that if what I read was true: viral meningitis is no where near as serious as bacterial meningitis. -v- also called the pediatrician, who told us that all we can do is check for a fever and make sure there aren’t any signs of him getting a headache. In other words, we need to sit and wait and watch.

As of now, Everything appears to good with Ezra. He has been just as happy and playful as always. There is no sign of fever.

Getting Wet Cheeked

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I have been wet cheeked by Ezra three times during the day (so far).

He wet cheeked me when he first woke up. I was holding Ezra for the walk down the stairs and sat. Then I pulled Ezra away to do stand practice. His cheek brushed by face as he was about to stand. The wetness was cold morning saliva.

He then wet cheeked me when I was picking him up from the play mat to go lay him down for a nap. It was when I was pulling him in and decided I wanted to kiss his neck that I got wet cheeked. He jerked his head before my lips hit neck, and he wet cheeked me.

After he spit up on my shoulder he wet cheeked me for the third time today.

The day is still early for Ezra’s saliva covered cheeks brush my face.

Bigmouth Strikes Again

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Friday was Ezra’s 4-month birthday, as Kalab wrote about on the birthday.
To celebrate the big day, Ezra went out for lunch with me and Auntie M, who was visiting for the weekend from DC. It was a fun lunch - Ezra enjoyed looking at all the bright lights and all the people. I don’t know how he felt about what I had for lunch.

Then after lunch, to celebrate more, we went to the doctor! For four more shots! What a fun way to spend a birthday, right?  Ezra was a really great sport, and he put up with everything like the brave baby he is. He’s weighing in at about 14 lbs, 2 oz, so he is just 1 lb 2oz shy of doubling his birth weight. This is one of the milestones a baby should reach before starting solids, according to Doctor lady. It generally coincides with the baby reaching 6 months, so Ezra’s right on schedule and will probably start getting some solids in a couple months.

Before the shots, Ezra was babbling and making all his cute noises for the nurses and for Doctor lady, and smiling his big toothless grin. Doctor lady pointed out Ezra’s swollen, teething gums and said he would probably be getting some teeth in that big mouth pretty soon. We’d pretty much figured that out since Ezra has been practically eating his fists every day for breakfast lunch and dinner. He’s totally almost gotten a whole one stuffed in his big mouth. Every time he does that, I think “Bigmouth Strikes Again”.  Unlike in the song, I don’t think I know how Joan of Arc felt, but I do know that I feel pretty proud : )

Poop Is Becoming Shit

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

One-Poop-A-Day Ezra is filling diapers with what is evolving from poop to shit.

The sour-milk-with-cottage-cheese-dyed-yellow-brown poop is now delivered in the form of a thicker and stickier and darker single poop mass that forms a clump of poop.

The clump of poop I believe is another sign Ezra’s poop is becoming shit.

The faint poop smell that does exist still reminds me more of sour milk than shit.

Ezra is beginning to wake…

I can hear from the baby monitor the waking noises of Ezra. …He is probably hungry…

The Golden Alarm

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

I hear it between 4 A.M. and 6 A.M.. By this time the Golden Alarm’s snooze button takes more than a tap on pacifier to quiet.

The golden alarm is not annoying. It can be fun. The golden alarm’s sounds can be like beeps and whistles. Some times a snort. Most of the time the golden alarm sounds like talking.

During the morning hour, the golden alarm can usually only be turned off by playing with the golden alarm. Standing practice, rollover fun, talking, reading, smiling, and noise making makes the golden alarm’s snooze button work as the golden alarm goes back to sleep.

At night, the golden alarm goes off couple times. Most of the time changing a diaper or feeding the golden alarm will be the golden alarm’s snooze button. Most of the time, but not all of the time. -v- has most, if not all, the experience with the night time golden alarm.

Ezra’s Fart Stain

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Yet another sign of growing is the beginning of the creation of fart stains on one’s underwear.

I am happy to write that yesterday Ezra had a fart stain. I found the fart stain while changing his wet diaper. I have to admit I felt joy at seeing the fart stain for it was  the first observed fart stain. And it is another growth moment that just happens to be marked by poop residue.

New Daycare

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Ezra’s new daycare seems much much better than the old daycare. When I arrived too take him home on Monday, I found him smiling and playing with a teacher, something that never happened at the old day care. His daily report said that he was a sweet and fun boy. He also took a nice long nap, something he hardly ever did at the old daycare. Hopefully when I go pick him up tomorrow afternoon, it will be just like Monday!

PS - Kalab is obsessed with Ezra’s poop. I bet he writes more about poop tonight.

Ezra’s First Rollover

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Ezra had his first unassisted rollover today. No, Ezra was not driving home from daycare and took a turn too quickly causing the car he was driving to rollover. Rather, Ezra was laying his stomach and rolled to his back all by himself.

It was a big moment. Up until now he hasn’t been able to create the momentum need to begin the roll from stomach to back, or back to stomach, but today, with out any help from -v- or I, he rolled from his stomach to his back.

Now he only needs to perfect this roll over skill. And experience his first back to stomach rollover.

The back to stomach roll over gets stalled on his side when he tries to roll over his own arm wedged between his body and the floor.

R.I.P.: Ezra’s Mullet

The once flowing mane of manliness is now gone :(

Ezra’s Got Manly Farts

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Typically when loud noises escape Ezra’s butt we can expect to find lots and lots of poop. While Ezra has been know to fart, it is a rarity and usually not something that happens often.

Today, however, Ezra has been a fart machine. And not those soft and silent farts, but the hard and exploding farts. Every time we had to check his diaper for poop. Every time only the faint smell of poop and a clean diaper is all we found.

This can only mean that Ezra is now becoming more of a man because everyone knows farting is the first stage of manhood.
