Tooth #8 Is Real

Monday, June 30th, 2008

-v- and I thought we seen Tooth #8 yesterday. And after waking Ezra this morning, and after spying into Ezra’s mouth as he yawned while I dressed him, I can confirm that Tooth #8 still appears to be making its slow and steady journey from Ezra gums.

I can’t quiet confirm -v-’s sighting of what looks like a very big Tooth #8 or another tooth journeying from Ezra’s gums by Tooth #8 for every time I look for Tooth #8 he puts tongue over gums unless I look at gums during a yawn or a scream or lots of loud talkie noises.

I can confirm there is a Tooth #8. Now my minor worries of him not having a Tooth #8 can focus on something else minor.

Sweaty Little Pig

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Pigs don’t sweat, but our Golden Pig does.

Summer is here. Now Ezra is in full sweat mode, much like his father. Ezra doesn’t drip sweat like his father, but there has been a thin film of sweat on his body for the past couple 90 degree hot days. His hair that sticks up because of his cow licks now lays flat. He prefers now more than ever only wearing his diaper around the house letting chest and legs go naked and cool. He may not prefer the heat for sleep for the warm of the heat may have kept him up past 9:30 P.M. the past two nights, but it is still too early to know. I hope not for it is still an early Summer.

Kalab’s Son Peed on the Floor

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Last night, after we returned from a BBQ at AA’s, I was getting Ezra ready for bed. I took off his pants and shirt, and he got all excited, like he usually does, at being mostly naked. So I decided that I would just take his diaper off and let him be naked for a couple minutes.

Just as I tossed the diaper in the trash, Ezra looked up at me with his cute little face, smiled, and proceeded to pee on the floor. Luckily, I was able to grab a cloth diaper and put it under the stream to catch about 1/3 of it before it could touch the floor, but there was definitely a nice size puddle before I got it covered.

This situation caused me to flash back to my babysitting days. When I was in middle school, I babysat for a couple next door that had a 3 or 4 year old son who would wake up in the middle of the night and need to pee, but he would just get out of bed and walk behind the bedroom door and pee, or sometimes just pee on his bed. I’m crossing my fingers that I won’t have to go through this with Ezra!

PS - last night, after peeing on the floor, Ezra slept all through the night, from 9pm - 7am! Not a peep from him the whole night!

Getting Sassy

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

-v-, Ezra and I share a houses with two cats, and Sassy in one of two cats. Sassy is an introverted cat. She likes to sit and look at things for a long time. She enjoys calm and quiet times. When there is loud sudden noise or lots of action toward her, she prefers to jog or run away and search for another place to have a calm and quiet time.

I really don’t think Ezra gets Sassy right now. Ezra wants to crawl fast and loud at Sassy and grab Sassy’s tail and tackle Sassy like he does Jigga, which is something we are teaching him not to do to Jigga all the time. Jigga, the other cat, doesn’t appear mind the rough play and grabbing of Ezra, and Jigga seems to sort of like it most of the time. Sassy, however, only likes soft pets and slow brushing when she wants to be petted and the laser light or a stick to chase when she wants to play, so I don’t know how long it will take for Ezra to be able to pet or play with Sassy.

Sleepless In…

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Last night Ezra slept most the night only waking a few times for a few minutes to cry and shout. He woke long enough to wake -v- and me, so we would go check on him only to find he had returned to sleep.

Tonight, I expect he will be up around midnight then again around three in the morning. We put him to bed around eight, and he woke three times since.

It took -v- and me sitting next to him, keeping him upright, while we watched Twin Peaks to get him to sleep longer than twenty minutes. Now that we are going to bed, I doubt that he will be sleeping much longer.

…Tired. We all are. Ezra as much as -v- and me. We all want sleep. We all want his stuffy snot filled nose to go away, so he can sleep through the night.

Stuffy Nose = Cranky, Sleepless Ezra

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

So on Saturday night, the longest night of the year, Ezra went to sleep late. Then he woke up a couple hours later crying loudly. And again a couple hours after that. The same thing happened Sunday night, and looks like it will happen again tonight. The main reason, I speculate, is Ezra’s stuffy nose.

This stuffy nose is sometimes a runny nose, which creates its own issues. But it is definitely a stuffy nose when he lies down. While he’s sleeping (or trying to sleep) he makes all sorts of noise with this stuffy nose - like a cross between an elephant and Kalab snoring. I think it makes it hard for him to sleep because he’s not fond of breathing through his mouth, and there’s too much snot in his nose.

I guess it’s just a cold? He’s in pretty good spirits when he’s awake during the day, which is good. There hasn’t been a fever yet either. To top it off, there might be some teething going on, because he’s also been drooling puddles all over the house. Whatever it is, I hope Ezra feels better soon!

Longest Day of the Year

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Ezra woke around 6 this morning, and he is now (at 9:40 at night) sleeping. It’s been a day full of playing, chasing, drooling, fussing, napping, eating, pooping, smiling and laughing by both Ezra and me and -v-. Ezra did all the drooling. Now hopefully it will be a night of Ezra sleeping all night until late morning. This, however, is unlikely because tomorrow is one of the second longest days of the year, and I am sure Ezra will be waking early to begin to enjoy and stay up late to see the sun go down.

Sippy Cup Versus Cup (The Competition Continues)

Friday, June 20th, 2008

For a couple of months, -v- and I have been using both a sippy cup and cup, so Ezra can drink water for Ezra is no longer getting lot of liquid by breast feeding.

During the couple of months, -v- and I have discovered Ezra has not taken to either. The sippy cup is beginning to be an object Ezra can use to do more than just slam against a surface for he is now actually drinking from the sippy cup. He is now able to lift the sippy cup to his mouth sometimes and drink from it, but sometimes he needs help lifting the bottom, and Ezra still likes to bang and throw around the sippy cup that can cause for water spills and messes. The cup appears to be more conducive to Ezra drinking water, but the cup requires more help from -v- and I for him to drink, which isn’t conducive to an independent Ezra, but it works. They both work. I only hope soon he can drink from either without the worry of needing get out the mop or towel to soak up dropped water.

Bananas and Cheese

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Ezra loves bananas and cheese. Bananas and cheese make a food-playing Ezra drop a ball of unwanted food and reach, pinch and lift a chunk of banana or cheese into mouth. Banana or cheese are never foods that he will push to the edges of the high chair tray and never foods that he picks up and drops on the floor (an obvious way Ezra has for showing us he is bored with a type of food or full of food). The sight of a banana or a piece of cheese can cause him to raise and lower legs hanging from chair and incite him to slap the smeared-food-covered-high-chair tray with both hands and let out a baby shout.

Ezra’s Big BANG!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Ezra appears to like the sound of a loud BANG! Or maybe he likes to see big plastic things fall to the floor. Whatever the reason. before he climbs the stairs he now has to stop at the base of the stairs and tip over the big plastic gate that is usually preventing him from climbing up the stairs, but rests on the wall next to the stairs when the big plastic gate is not mounted.

It begins when Ezra notices the big plastic gate is not mounted at the bottom of the stairs. Ezra crawls over to the stairs and stands. Before he climbs the stairs, he stands by the bottom of the stairs and stares at the big plastic gate. Then stares at and reaches for the big plastic gates. Sometimes he fondles the top corner of the big plastic gate and sometimes he just reaches out and lifts the top of the big plastic gate from the wall until it falls. As it falls, he watches. While he watches he is as still and calm as he is right after he takes a poop. Then BANG! The big flat plastic gate hits the hardwood floor! He then stares at the fallen big plastic gate for a few seconds and climbs the stairs.

Ouch

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I have been nursing Ezra less and less the last few weeks. Ezra won’t have much to do with a bottle anymore, either. Which means that whatever I pump for daycare goes right down the sink instead of in Ezra’s belly. This leads me to believe that he doesn’t really need as much of my milk anymore, and nursing is probably more of a comfort than a necessity. I’ve noticed that even on days when I am home with him, he nurses much less partially because he’s eating 3 solid meals plus snacks and and partially because he doesn’t have as much time for nursing if he’s going to also climb stairs, navigate his corral, play with Jigga, read books, take naps, help me with my computering, and climb up my legs.

So we’re moving in what seems to be a natural way toward weaning, I guess. This is probably good - I am hoping to avoid a situation where I am having to pry a 2 year-old’s hands off my boobs because he still wants to nurse whenever he feels like it, or a 3 year-old who carries around a bottle everywhere. But it is a painful change in two ways: a) I see that my relationship with Ezra will never be the same once he stops nursing and this make me sort of sad because I realize how quickly he’s going to grow up and stop needing me for anything; and b) my boobs are not quite sure how much milk to produce and when, and sometimes I’m a little over-full and that’s painful in its own way, but it’s led to a slight case of mastitis, which sort of feels like someone’s trying to pull small rocks out my nipples, which freaking hurts!

Child Proofing

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I installed the levers that screw on to cabinet doors and hook on the cabinet frame. Now the doors to trash bin under sink and the door to cleaning liquids and powers under sink have a lever that will hook the cabinet frame and hold the door and require too much coordination and strength for Ezra to press open to unhook lever and open door.

Father’s Day

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

I remember when I was a kid I asked my father why wasn’t there a Kid’s Day if there is a Father’s Day (and a Mother’s Day). My father said, „Because every day is Kid’s Day.”

I now fully understand his answer and how true it is.

Ezra is Super Cute

Fort Ezra

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Ezra appears to have his first fort area. An area that he some times likes to crawl into and stand in.

The fort is under the dinning table. It is fort like because five of its chairs are usually on three sides making three walls around the fort ceiling also known as the table top. The table legs are four beams holding the fort ceiling and roof up.

Though the fort roof is taller than Ezra, Ezra must crawl into the fort because if he walks into the fort his big head will hit the board that spans between beams and helps secure the connection of the four beams to the the fort top. He crawls under the board then stands in the fort. When he stands his head can not be seen because of the boards between beams, but his body can seen walking from one side of the fort to the other side of the fort. He sometimes stands and hits the tops of desks that are connected to the fort walls, and he looks through the fort walls spying on the cats or -v- or me. Sometimes he just sits on the floor of the fort and plays with a toy or coyly chews on a piece of paper.

Shaking Head Side To Side

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Ezra has been shaking his head side to side like he is saying no periodically through the day for the past couple of days. He usually does this side to side head shaking when we talk with Ezra and move our heads. He is usually sitting down. It doesn’t seem like a twitch or some baby Obsessive Compulsive Disorder act, but rather a mimic of an act -v- and I do. Well, an act I know I do when saying no. Ezra doesn’t shake his head up and down, which is movement I don’t do when saying yes. Since Friday, we (Grandma O, -v-, and I) began to shake heads up and down when saying yes, so maybe Ezra will begin shaking his head up and down like he is a baby with OCD needing to say yes.

There have been moments today when we were both sitting on the floor shaking our heads in different directions because the other was shaking their head.
