Watching Cars

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

He said, ,,Bu bu bu bu bu…” and pointed as a bus passed. He wowed many times at passing buses, big trucks, moving vans, semi-trailer trucks, dump trucks, cement trucks, a fire engine, a moter cycle.

We stood at an intersection for about twenty minutes and walked and stood along a sidewalk for another twenty. Then we returned, and he wanted to nap.

WOW BU BU BU

Hatin’ The Bath

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

There is no love between Ezra and the bath. He fusses just to get his feet in the water and then he locks his legs making them stiff as boards. If a touch of preasure is applied at his leg joints to help him sit in the bath, he freaks and does a splashing dance.

It is unknown why Ezra has lost the love of the water. It has been this way for the past couple of weeks. Before the two weeks he would love to bath, but now…Now he stands and fusses and gets water everywhere but on is body.

Daddy?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I think Ezra may finally know that I am his Daddy. After days of talking and training and making sure he knew that a dump truck or a book wasn’t daddy, Ezra may now know I am his daddy. I think this because when I came home from work today he walked toward the door and said, ,,Daddy.” And when I was in the kitchen he came into the kitchen saying, ”Daddy.” He did point to a bag for dried fruit as he walk past, but I think (or at least that is what I want to think) he was pointing to the bag of dried fruit saying, ”Daddy” because he meant Daddy, I want some dried fruit.

Got Himself A Scowl

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Ezra’s been perfecting his scowl. It went from looking like Frankenstein being stumped with a question to Ezra looking pissed-off. It is all in the eyes. He can peer with his scowl. And his lips become tense too. And the way he looks away with his scowl makes you feel like you are a fool or rude.

He scowls when he doesn’t get his way. He has been scowling a lot because he wants to play with the oven, the fridge, the cat’s tail. He scowls if he doesn’t get his pacifier; if he can’t brush his teeth for the sixth time during the day; if he can’t go outside right now. He scowls the more tired he becomes. His scowl is still cute for it is his scowl.

He’s A Napper

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Ezra knows when he wants a nap. He will climb the stairs, walk to his room, point to the door if closed and when door is open walk into room and stand by crib and point.

We will lift him inside crib, and he will lay in the crib. Sometimes he will look at us and standup if we don’t lay on the floor near the crib for a few minutes after he is put inside.

He will then nap.

Toys with Wheels and Sounds

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

A Catepillar® dump truck twice the size of Ezra with three buttons on a steering wheel’s center that create three sounds: an ingnition sound, an engine sound, a dumping a load sound; and a smaller Fisher Price® small push car with a button under the soft plastic roof that makes the sound of engine reving and tires squealing are the two toys Ezra played with a lot today. He looked at a few books, but books are something that he seems to warm to and want to look at when the sounds are heard. He seen a diaroma of farm still in the box for I am still wondering how to play with it. The cloths all fun. There are blinking socks that can go with glow in the dark PJs. He like the clementine in the stocking. Every present at one point was daddy.

Who’s Your Daddy?

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Ezra may finally know that I am his daddy. Well, he may now associate the word dad and daddy with me instead of me and many other non-food objects. He has pointed to snow and said, ,,Daddy,” and point to Jigga, the cat, and said, ”Daddy,” and he has pointed to the car and said, ”Daddy.”

Today, however, after some training and teaching with the help of -v- and Grandma O Ezra tapped me on the shoulder and said, ”Daddy.” Then he was walking past and pointed at me and said, ”Daddy.”

I suspect this may not last for tomorrow, but for tonight it feels pretty good.

Ezra Likes Brushing Teeth

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

During these past days while we have all been trapped inside the house Ezra has walked Valerie and I to the bathroom four or five times a day to brush teeth.

He won’t exactly brush his teeth, but rather he wants his tooth brush topped off with a kid friendly toothpaste, so he can suck the toothpaste from the tooth brush and sort of move his tooth brush over his teeth as he watches Valerie and I either brush our teeth or act like we are brushing are teeth.

We are able to help him actually brush more than his front teeth throughout the day, so it is worth the time. And it is kind of cute and a good habit for the future if he wants healthy teeth and gums and fresh breath.

More snow

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Yep. More snow. We’ve been home with Ezra because there’s more snow. Ezra has been mad at me the last couple of days because I wouldn’t take him to the street corner to look at cars because I didn’t want to carry him all the way over there, and he wouldn’t set foot in the snow. He doesn’t mind being outside in the cold, but he’s just not interested in being on the ground in the snow. This afternoon, it finally stopped snowing, and the sun sort of peeked out. I decided to strap Ezra on my back and go to the street corner to look at cars. Ezra seemed happy with this plan, and we had a nice walk around the neighborhood, looking at cars and checking out the bad drivers and then watching the older kids sled down the hill in the park. Maybe next year Ezra will like snow a little more, and would appreciate the fun of sledding down a snowy hill. I don’t feel like risking it this year, because if we were to crash on the way down, and Ezra were to get a face full of snow, I don’t think he’d ever want anything to do with snow ever again.

Snowy Days

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Ezra went to daycare today after 3 snowy days at home with his mom and dad. Those 3 days were nice to have, but at the same time felt really long because in addition to entertaining, being entertained by, and caring for Ezra all day, Kalab and I also had to squeeze in as much “working from home time” as possible. I don’t know if Ezra really liked the snow, or being outside in the snow and cold weather. He was a little less animated than he usually is when we go outside to watch cars or play in the park, but still wanted to go outside, which is more than I can say for myself. I hope Ezra enjoyed some extra time at home with mom and dad, because I know that I enjoyed the extra time with Ezra!

Ezra Out Played Me.

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Ezra out played his old man. We played blocks. We played shopper. We played look out the window. We played What Does Apple mean? We played sweep. We played with blocks. We played Swing Ezra In Circles Until Old Man’s Back Begins To Hurt. Then we played crawl around and chase Ezra under tha table. He played blocks while I laid on back. We played for there was no playcare today, again. Ezra now sleeps to ready for play with -v-  for the rest of the day for it is soon my turn to go work the money job.

Apple Is Every Food. But Every Food Is Not The Apple.

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Ezra calls food Apple. It is a universal word for that food object he is starring at or pointing at that he wants to eat. He wants, ,,Apple.” And then he points.

While we name the things we give him like bread, eggs, peanut butter, beef, pork, sweat potatoes. And if there are pieces we count them out with the name of the food like clementine wedges, peach slices, carrots pieces, peas. But still everything is, ,,Apple.”

Apple is easier than clementine, peach, carrot, potatoes and banana to say.

Pacifier Addict

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

I wonder if there is a P.A., or Pacifiers Anonymous, for kids addicted to the pacifier? If there is, I wonder if Ezra should join for he has shown addiction minutes ago with whimpers and a frantic search for his pacifier last seen behind the couch, but the pacifier was missing from behind the couch for it was in my pocket. I tried not to give him his pacifier, but the intense expressions and sounds coming from Ezra reminded me of a smoker who hadn’t had a cigarette all day. He had only been without pacifier for a few minutes after he dropped it, on purpose, behind the couch. He forgot about it while we played blocks and while he swept the floor, but then suddenly there was a need for the pacifier, so he looked behind the couch and didn’t see a pacifier then began to have pacifier withdrawals.

I have given in. He has his pacifier now and is calm and sucking away. I reason his stress for pacifier need not be for he probably is still going through withdrawals from no more nursing. At least it won’t destroy his lungs and increase the chances of throat and lung cancer.

Ear Tubes Are A-OK

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Ezra went in for a follow-up doctor’s appointment for his ear tubes today. Despite -v- and I going to the wrong place in the hospital and showing up late, the visit was good. No infection, better hearing and a blue tube in each ear is a summery of the report. He has also been sleeping better at night. Yay! for ear tubes.

Maybe He Will Be A Janitor?

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Ezra loves sweeping. This fact was proving again today when we arrived home from playcare, and he wanted to sweep the front porch. Well, not so much sweep, but move around the broom with one hand moving a few leaves here and there. This went on for about five minutes.

A couple days ago he when I was sweeping up the pine needles that had fallen from the X-mass tree Ezra was near fussy until I gave him the broom, so for the next minutes he swept the floor with one hand by maneuvering the broom over the floor. He actually did sweep few pine needles into a pile. And he had to be distracted by -v- to let go of the broom and let me quickly finish the job.

This sweeping love is nothing new. Neither is his want to swiffer the floor. And given his new obsession with rearranging the canned food in the pantry and his want to toss things in the trash, I am believing maybe he will become a janitor, a nearly recession and depression proof job. And if not a janitor maybe he will believe helping clean the house is cool until he become a teenager and pure pressure informs him otherwise.

Happy Tired Fussy

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Ezra was happy to see me when I arrived home. He walked to me with open arms and a smile. We talked, and I followed him around the main living area as he spoke Ezra Words.  Then I left Ezra to shower.

When I returned from the shower, Ezra’s long day and tired body and mind were evident for he was fussy tired Ezra. He was also manic Ezra with a mood swing from happy to fussy in a span of seconds until he was put to bed, so he could sleep and dream and be awake for the morning with a typically happy and fun mood.
