Run Around

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

It was really really rainy this afternoon and evening, which prevented us from going outside for some fun times at the park or on the bike+trailer. So Ezra decided to lead me and dad around the living/dining room in another crazy game of Run Around. I am not sure if there’s an objective to this game, or a way to win. But I do know that if someone falls during RunAround, they get tickled!

Don’t Cut The Cheese

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I was giving Ezra a snack of string cheese today. Instead of giving him the whole piece of packaged string cheese I cut off the end thinking we could share. Deep inside I knew, as I was cutting the cheese, that it was a bad idea. It was a bad idea because I knew that Ezra at times hates having his food (and other things like crayons or sticks) cut, torn or broke part and earlier while walking to the park a stick he found broke in two and he became upset until I convinced him that he now had two sticks.

Ezra likes whole things. Or things he believes are whole. And no matter how much I tell him that two is more than one or that it’s still the same amount food (or stick), Ezra some times becomes lost in a dramatic display of tears and pouting because of the now unwhole thing.

One time -v- cut a peanut butter sandwich in half before him, so half of it could be saved for his lunch. Ezra lost all sense of reason and emotional control. He even tired squishing the two halves of sandwich back together with his two hands wet with tears.

Today it was a piece of cut string cheese. I gave him a new whole piece but he wanted the one I cut. He tried to press the two pieces together and glue it with his tears, but no matter the pressure they wouldn’t stick. I even tried to press the two pieces back to one but with no success.

The story ended with me giving him his binky and both of us wishing I had not cut the cheese.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Ezra used this Mother’s Day to show -v- why he needs her. He needs her to go outside, tie his shoes, zip his coat, put on his bike helmet, walk with him down stairs, follow him through the brush and trees, read to him at night, wash his hair, change his poopy diaper, calm him when he is frustrated, watch him go down slides, pull him in his red wagon, sing songs to him, draw with him and love him.

I help him with these things, too, but mom is who he calls for first and needs her when near. She is the one that brings us together, and she is the one with the wisdom and manner to be calm and clear when there is tension or confusion.

Mom is awesome.

AWESOME DAY!

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Ezra’s new favorite word other than binky is awesome, and it is a word he said more than once today.

Ezra woke to begin the awesome day cleaning with me until -v- awoke. He even gave me his binky after he woke when I asked him to give me his binky, which made me say, ,,Awesome.”

,,Awesome,” was said when Ezra seen many motorcycles at the sporting good store as we looked for bicycle helmets.

Awesome was when -v-, Ezra and I touring the neighborhood on bikes. Ezra wasn’t peddling his own, but rather sittig in a pull along cart with his new TONKA helmet watching the neighborhood roll past. ”Awsome,” was said again when he slid down slides at a park.

Ezra said, ”Awesome,” again after we seen a steam train choo-choo past that was part of a National Train Day exhibit.

It was awesome to follow Ezra around the yard as the day began to wane. It was an awesome day for me.

,,Binky, binky, binky…”

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Ezra didn’t have his binky for playcare today, so he had to borrowed the only infant’s binky to calm him to nap. Ezra didn’t have his binky during the drive from daycare, so he sucked on his fingers. Ezra didn’t have his binky for a few seconds after waking this morning, so he wokeup like he was waking from a nightmare saying, ,,Binky, binky, binky…” Ezra didn’t have his binky after going outside, so the first thing he did once inside was go find his binky.

Ezra Fall Down Go Boom

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

It happened at daycare. Apparently, he was vying for seat on some stairs by a friend and slipped, fell, hit. Now there is a HUGE bump on his head. HUGE. The bump is near half his forehead. No big deal though it a big bump. He’s healthy. He’s in good spirits. Doesn’t even seemed phased. I suppose this is likely the beginning of a life time of bumps, bruises and scrapes for some one as crazy and wild as Ezra.

BIG

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Maybe it was the few days away from Ezra, but he is now seeming to be bigger. Like a massive baby giant.

Of course, my perception of him being big is also further enforced by the fact he’s beginning to out grow cloths he’s been wearing for months. The pants he wore today looked like he was going to wading. The one-piece pajamas he wore last night will need to feet cut off if they are going to fit him anymore. A few of the shirt just don’t fit easy over his head any more.

And last but not least, he’s more difficult to carry during those few times he allow me to pick him up. I can only go about a two blocks before I need to switch arms and begin to tell Ezra how big he is.

Ezra Stayed Home

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Kalab and I went to my company retreat recently, and Ezra stayed home with Grandpa and Grandma T.  We had a fun time together, just me and Kalab, but it was hard being away from Ezra for the weekend. There were some other kids at the retreat who were around Ezra’s age, and seeing them made me miss Ezra more. I tried talking to him on the phone one night, but he just wasn’t interested at all - I could hear him saying “no no no” in the background.  I think Ezra would have had fun with us, and us with him, but he also seemed to have a fun weekend at home. Plus, who knows how many people at that retreat place will come down with swine flu, right?
