Mood Swings

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Ezra’s mood swings swung like the pendulum of a grandfather clock. Except the tick-tock of pendulum was cry-shout that started and stopped from minute to minute. One minute he didn’t want the empanada, salsa shouting and crying them to be removed from plate then put back on plate then the next minute he was silent as he ate. One minute he didn’t want books read to him and then he wanted books read to him. Then the next minute he was silent as he listened to -v- read. All the time he was wiping his nose causing one cheek to become more red.

The mood swings were caused by being tired; having a runny nose for weeks; an ear infection; poop that causes rashes because of the antibiotics for the ear infection kill stomach bacteria; and there is a muck sickness the family can’t seem kick. All seems to have pushed Ezra near the edges of sanity and insanity. It has been too much time since he has probably had a great night of peaceful sleep.

Possible Future Model Train Geek?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Today was a great day for family fun. It began with breakfast and continued on to the day’s event: Going to the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club.

If buying him wooden train track for his birthday wasn’t enough to make him a train geek then introducing him to the model trains at the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club could bring him closer to train geekdom.

Ezra had a great time looking at the many small houses, tunnels, bridges, lights, trains, trees, people, cars and trucks moving, tooting and shining. There were classic model trains of many types rolling around tracks and through tunnels. There was a small LEGO train set near the snack bar. After an hour we left, but the enthusiasm for trains continued. Because while playing trucks with Ezra, he lined up trucks, cars, teddy bears, books as a train. Ezra had me sit at the front of the line while he sat at the back of the line. I made train toots while Ezra said loud, ,,I’m driving! I’m driving!”

Oh the Ears!

Friday, November 27th, 2009

We are on another level of antibiotics for Ezra’s ear. He woke up on Wednesday complaining about an owie in his ear, so I got him in to see the doctor. She decided to switch to a different type of antibiotic, because she said that it was either a new infection or the old one didn’t get knocked out by the dose we started two weeks ago…so, it’s now looking very likely that Ezra will get a recommendation for another set of tubes. Those poor ears! He takes his medicine like a trooper….even the additional “medicine” that we’re giving him to help his tummy get the good bacteria back - straight acidophilus bacteria that tastes like weirdly pungent blueberry yogurt. Hopefully he will keep up the good attitude and this ear infection will go away!

Ezra’s First Metaphor

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Ezra was pinching the top of his binky and pushing it across his table’s top. He said, ,,My binky’s like a wheelbarrow.” And, yes, with the back of the hand the body of the wheelbarrow and the binky the wheel, it did look like a wheelbarrow.

-v- said, ,,That’s his first metaphor.” And it was. Well, it was the first one we have heard.

,,Thank you.”

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Ezra said, ,,Thank you,” today after I got him some juice. -v- didn’t even need to remind Ezra to say, ”Thank you.” He just did. And he smiled, so it was better. It would had been even better if he didn’t  have his binky in his mouth.

Cars is king

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

We went to the store today to get Ezra a new movie. The only one he showed any interest in was the Cars movie. He didn’t say no to a Curious George movie. And he didn’t say no to the Ratatoullie movie…but he said no to all the other movies. So we came home with Curious George and the RatMovie. This evening Ezra agreed to sit and watch Curious George. We were excited. But it was not happening. About 5 minutess into the show Ezra realized that he was being subjected to an inferior movie and demanded Cars. So now I am watching the Cars movie for like the 10th time. Ka-chow!

,,Yeah, okay.”

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Yesterday and the day before it was, ,,Yeah.’‘ Today, it has been, ,,Yeah, okay,” or ”Yeah. Okay,” or ”Yeah…Okay,’ instead of, ”Yes.” He still says, ”Yeah,” and there were times when Ezra said, ”Yeah,” and Valerie said, ,,Okay,” like she was completing his thought.

,,Yeah.”

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Ezra now some times says, ,,Yeah,” instead of, ”Yes,”  which too me is cute and adorable and fun to hear when Ezra says it.

Swine Flu Shot

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Ezra got one of two swine flu shots today. He needs to go back during December to get two of two, but we won’t talk about that until then because Ezra didn’t like the shot much. -v- did say that Ezra didn’t cry and only crinched when the shot was given.

A sick boy

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Ezra and I stayed home together the
Last couple of days because of the ear
Infection. While we had a pretty good time
He was still a sick boy who was often tired
And more clingy than usual. But it was still
Nice to have time together with my sick boy.

Another…Ear…Infection

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Doctor confirmed Ezra has another ear infection, so now Ezra is taking the Amoxicillin twice a day. I gave him his second dose to day. It was a different experience than it was even nine months ago, because now he has a better ability to refuse medication. Fortunately, when I gave him the meds he took it with a contorted face, but swallowed and waited for the next injection of Amoxicillin. Now, there will be nine more days of finding way to get him to take the medication.

Ear Tube Fallout

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

About a year ago Ezra got ear tubes to help with ear infections. The tubes have helped for infections have been near none after he got ear tubes, but now due to an ear infection, agitation and time the ear tube has fallen out. We have the ear tube wrapped in tissue. There has been a slight fever, and there is a slight pain in the ear with no ear tube. Golden goop has oozed from ear. He has told us only one ear really hurts. Though his ear infection is causing him slight pain, he was in great spirts tonight was he and we played trucks and trains then sung the clean-up song and cleaned-up. His pediatrician will be seeing him tomorrow about the ear tube and ear infection.

,,Going to work.”

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I was late getting home from  work, so I ate cold pizza alone until Ezra decided to eat, so he got his plate of pizza and sat down beside me on the floor. He pulled some topping off the pizza, ate the toppings then looked-up at me then stood and said, ,,Going to work,” and walked away. It was then I realized how he must feel when I leave him for work.

Reading Is Fundamental

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

-v- is usually the one Ezra chooses to read books to him. I offer, but Ezra usually will take the book and give it to -v-. I suspect Ezra prefers -v-’s readings style and character voices. But -v-’s voice and desire to read Ezra’s growing book collection over and over and over again is tired and -v- couldn’t finish the stacks today and Ezra really wanted many more books read, so today Ezra had to choose me to read him books. We read Clifford and the Big Storm; Danny Dozer Hit A Home Run; Shapes; My First Spanish Word Board Book; No No Yes Yes; Red; Where The Wild things Are; Every One Poops. During reading  time he hugged me and said, ,,My daddy,” a few times making me nearly cry, but I read on hoping I will be able to read to him more every day.

,,I’m Almost Done.”

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Last night, Ezra said, ,,I’m almost done,” every time after giving a book to -v- to read from a big stack of books. This morning he said, ,,I’m almost done,” after driving every car of cars from the main living area to the red room then parking the car in a row of cars as -v- waited for Ezra, so they could go get coffee and read a book. Both times he was done when all the books were read and all the cars were park, so at least he knows when he is done if not knowing what almost means, but I suppose this could be my fault because I do say, ,,I’m almost done,” at times when I’m not almost done.

Watching Ezra Play

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Ezra can entertain himself with objects while creating a world from the furniture and the different rooms. He can play with toys, and Ezra playing with toys is something I can’t watch enough of because it still fascinates him that he can create a world where Matchbox cars, Tonka toys and LEGO fire-people can exists as one. It goes beyond Círculos. It is amazing to see, and I can’t help but watch.
