Cardboard House

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Ezra’s cardboard house is next to his office that is under a desk. On the outside of the cardboard house is a diagram of a small electric train that are house instructions. Inside the cardboard house is a small seat that Ezra can sit on and have enough room to close the door flaps.

Throughout the day, he sits in his house after he is done working at his office on his project. The projects are cutting and drawing on paper.

Once in a while he will closeup the house doors and ask if -v- and I want to come visit him. We do visit then he shows us around his home and office.

Can You Talk About It?

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

While I do mostly enjoy explaining things to Ezra again and again because I know it helps him learn and understand (and helps me learn and understand), I have come to feel tense when he firsts asks me the question of, ,,Can you talk about it?” because the IT is a movie. I become tense because I know this question may be asked of all movies he has seen. So, I talk about a simple version of the storyline of the movie.

He asks questions about character intent, character mannerisms, character purpose, character motives, character conflicts and the environment of the movie.

So…I explain until he has no more questions about character intent, character mannerisms, character purpose, character motives, character conflicts and the environment of the movie, so I can finish telling a simple version of the storyline of the movie and answer the question.  I do ask, ,,Can you talk about it?” And he does (more and more) talk about the movies, which makes the small bit of tension I feel when I first hear the first question of, ,,Can you talk about it?” worth experiencing.

I Felt Nervous And A Bit Awkward At The Playdate

Monday, January 24th, 2011

We had the playdate with Ezra’s preschool friends. It was my first play date. I feel I may have been the only one feeling a bit awkward as I didn’t know what the parents did during a playdate for the kids. So, I sat with the other parents in the room where the kids were playing. I sat and drank my tea. The parent talk began, and I listened and nodded and tried to fit in, and the kids were playing and having fun, and then the awkward feeling lessened. It seemed the awkward feelings did not exist for Ezra or the other kids. Of course, they have had playdates before.

Playdate

We are having a couple of Ezra’s preschool friends over for a playdate tomorrow. Ezra is excited. I am nervous!

Dear, Beastie Boys…

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

Ezra and I talked again about the Beatie Boys’ song Sure Shot. Ezra now wants me to call the Beastie Boys and ask them why they can’t, wont and don’t stop.

Ill Communication

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Ezra prefers to listen to Beastie Boys Ill Communication when in my car for he gets tired of public radio, and I have only a few cassette tapes in the car and only one he likes. So we listen to the Beastie Boys Ill Communication a lot, and the first song he has actually requested to hear from the tape was the song with the chorus, ,,Because you can’t, you won’t, and you don’t stop…” (also know as the song Sure Shot). While listening to the song Sure Shot, Ezra repeated the chorus, ,,Because you can’t, you won’t, and you don’t stop…” which was followed with the question of, ”Why can’t they stop?” I couldn’t communicate an answer why…

Mocked by Ezra

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

I was talking in my flustered voice to Ezra as he was playing a game and not paying attention, and I was asking him to pull up his pants and finish dressing instead of playing the game. My flustered voice is deeper because of the exasperated exhales. My flustered voice repeats and can get quick. Finally, Ezra stops playing the game and pulls-up his pants saying in a deeper voice and quick like me, ,,Now, pull up your pants. Now, pull up your pants. Now, pull up your pants…”

I smiled and no longer felt flustered.

Hair Cut

Monday, January 17th, 2011

After months of refusing haircuts and hating the washing of hair, Ezra let -v- cut the hair while feeding him a few M & Ms making the hippie kid more clean cut.

Tired

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Few things are bertter than having Ezra climb-up and over bed between me and -v- and ask if one us could go play with him downstairs unless it is three in morning on a work day.

Manager

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

If how Ezra works on the the 200 piece world puzzle he got for Christmas is any indication of his future career than that career will be management. First he walks around with the puzzle and says, ,,Lets do a puzzle.” Then he pours puzzle over floor and reminds us again of the puzzle and its need to be put together. -v- and I begin to assemble the the puzzle while he tells me how to put all the edge pieces and word pieces in the box. He will begin to put together the edge pieces then get bored when they don’t go together easily then he grabs the foldout picture of the map puzzle and walks around saying we need to look at the instructions and work faster.

Ice Skating

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

I took Ezra ice skating today! I think it has easily been more than 10 years since I was last ice skating, maybe even more? It was fun! I wish I could have taken pictures but I had my hands pretty full between holding his hand and holding the wall…I think his favorite part of the experience was….the zamboni!

Then Holiday Lights Become Night Lights

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

So, the holiday lights in Ezra’s room have likely become Ezra’s night light.

Long Hair

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

So…Ezra wants long hair. I thought last week that we had convinced him that long hair was too much work to keep care of. We went through the fact he would have to wash hair more often, brush his hair and keep good care of the hair. Last week we thought we convinced him that cutting his hair was the best option because Ezra hates, HATES, washing his hair or having it combed. It was for these reason that we want him to cut his hair. So, last week, we told of all the responsibility that comes with long hair and we thought he was going to let us cut his hair, but that is not that case. Ezra still wants the long hair. So, now…Now we have to keep care of Ezra’s hair.

Kicking Stand

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Ezra’s got his kicking stand using a little bit of his money found/earned and a little bit of his Christmas money. He also go four orange cones, so he can make what ever shape of field he desires.

While we were getting the kicking stand, he saw baseball glove that he wanted, too, but didn’t have enough money, so I told him he should keep the left over Christmas money and keep saving those pennies.

Happy New Year!

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

It’s 2011 now. I was looking over some papers this weekend, cleaning off a desk. I found a stack of insurance and medical statements from 2008. Ezra sure did go to the doctor a lot that year. I’m sure glad we haven’t had another year like that with him. Here’s to a happy, healthy 2011 for Ezra and everyone else!
