Ezra’s Ear Infection

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Since yesterday, Ezra was beginning to show signs of some thing that appeared to be Conjunctivitis, also know as Pink Eye, also know as that thing that causes the eyes to create boogers on the eyelids and eyes. We thought maybe that his eyes were jealous of all the boogers the nose was creating and therefor wanted to create their own. We were hoping it wouldn’t be a simple case of bacterial Conjunctivitis that would clear up in a few days. So we called the pediatrician to get an appointment, so she could look at Ezra and prescribe whatever it is he would need to clear up the Conjunctivitis only to find out that he has a nasty ear infection.

The diagnosis of the ear infection does explain the fussiness during the past couple of days when laying Ezra down, but the diagnosis doesn’t take away pain he is obviously having right now. Baby Tylenol seems to help a bit, but getting him to lay down and sleep is difficult. Along with a cough and teething, the ear infection I think has pushed him over the limit. It has -v- and I realizing sleep is something to now daydream.

Thankfully, we have been giving him bubble gum flavored amoxicillin, but that will take a few days to help. For now, we will wait.

Ezra’s 6 months old today! Happy 1/2 Birthday for my baby boy!

Ezra got to spend the morning of his birthday with grandma T - they had lots of stand practice and even went outside. Then I came home and we went to the doctor. Probably not the best birthday present ever. Ezra is 16.07lbs, 27.5″ tall, and has a 17.5″ head circumference. Yay! He got 2 more immunization jabs, and only cried for about 5 seconds, then smiled at the nurses before they left the room : )

Here is Ezra not with happy-birthday-flowers, but with the get-well-soon-flowers-that-are-taller-than-he-is we got from Extensis last week (and all the other junk on the table).Big Boy flowers

Bigmouth Strikes Again

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Friday was Ezra’s 4-month birthday, as Kalab wrote about on the birthday.
To celebrate the big day, Ezra went out for lunch with me and Auntie M, who was visiting for the weekend from DC. It was a fun lunch - Ezra enjoyed looking at all the bright lights and all the people. I don’t know how he felt about what I had for lunch.

Then after lunch, to celebrate more, we went to the doctor! For four more shots! What a fun way to spend a birthday, right?  Ezra was a really great sport, and he put up with everything like the brave baby he is. He’s weighing in at about 14 lbs, 2 oz, so he is just 1 lb 2oz shy of doubling his birth weight. This is one of the milestones a baby should reach before starting solids, according to Doctor lady. It generally coincides with the baby reaching 6 months, so Ezra’s right on schedule and will probably start getting some solids in a couple months.

Before the shots, Ezra was babbling and making all his cute noises for the nurses and for Doctor lady, and smiling his big toothless grin. Doctor lady pointed out Ezra’s swollen, teething gums and said he would probably be getting some teeth in that big mouth pretty soon. We’d pretty much figured that out since Ezra has been practically eating his fists every day for breakfast lunch and dinner. He’s totally almost gotten a whole one stuffed in his big mouth. Every time he does that, I think “Bigmouth Strikes Again”.  Unlike in the song, I don’t think I know how Joan of Arc felt, but I do know that I feel pretty proud : )

So Tall! So Brave!

Ezra is a tall, brave baby!

The visit to the doctor for the 2 month well baby check-up included the weigh-in: 12.04 lbs, 25 inches! The dr. guessed that I must be a bit surprised that he’s already too tall for most his newborn clothes.

But this trip to the doctor also included the dreaded immunization shots I have heard so much about from some other moms. Stories of babies screaming and crying because they were in pain from the shots, of babies developing fevers and being cranky for days…granted, these are not so serious as far as side effects go, but they were all I could think about on the way to the doctor. I didn’t want to see my baby in pain! However, when the nurses came in and did their jobs with the jabs, he hardly cried at all! And he was actually pretty calm the remainder of the day, too. So far, so good (knock on wood)!

Four Shots!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

No, Ezra wasn’t shooting alcohol or heroin, he was getting some of his immunization shots earlier today.

Ezra went to visit the doctor today, and I have been told by -v- (who was told by the doctor) that Ezra is a healthy boy. A boy that is tall for his age. A boy that didn’t cry like a baby when he had a needle jabbed into both his thighs twice!

As a result of the shots, Ezra has been feeling a bit sore, but we got him a prescription of Baby Tylenol which seems to take the edge off.

He is now sleeping after a day of smiling and looking around.
