Ezra and Jigga

Takedown!

This is how Ezra shows his love for Jigga. Either that, or Ezra was trying to use Jigga as a step-stool to get up on the couch.

For the first 7 months of Ezra’s life, Jigga mostly sat and observed Ezra in his chair, or Ezra lying mostly motionless on the floor. Now they almost seem to play together. Once Ezra started crawling, he decided that the cats are the coolest things, and would crawl after them. This doesn’t bother Jigga at all - in fact, he now chases after Ezra to get more attention and/or give Ezra some headbutts. Ezra reciprocates by throwing himself on top of Jigga with a squeal and a laugh. So far, Jigga hasn’t reacted badly to this game - he just pulls himself out from under Ezra, and occasionally will come right back for more.

Ezra’s First Christmas

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Christmas with Ezra meant more presents for me…to open. He’s still a little too uncoordinated to open his own gifts, so I served as unofficial gift-opener yesterday. He got some new toys (to put in his mouth), and some new books (to put in his mouth), and only a couple little outfits (to put in his mouth) (Some family members want Ezra to be a 49ers fan…but that ain’t gonna happen - he’s already got his own cheesehead!). He did show some interest in some of the wrapping paper, but only so much as it was something else to put in his mouth.

Ezra showed a lot of interest in the tree with all the ornaments and lights - though he was always kept far enough away so that he couldn’t pull anything off and put in his mouth.

Ezra Tree and Me

Heartbreaker

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Ezra met his first baby yesterday and he was so charming! I took Ezra to see dad play some soccer. One of the teammates has a baby girl, just 2 months older than Ezz. It was so fun to see them interact - there was lots of staring and smiling, and even some hand-holding! They were totally into each other. Baby girl’s dad was not too excited about the hand-holding…he thought he had at least 15 more years until she started being interested in boys! I think it’s inevitable that Ezra’s going to be breaking hearts at a young age.

Ezra and I had a really good time together this past week - likely our last one together because I have to start back to work on Monday. I’ll be working from home most of the week, except for meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Luckily, Grandma O will be in town so she will stay home with the baby. The following week is when I have to take Ezra to day care, and the thought of that just about breaks my heart. :(

Is C-SPAN White Noise As Magical As Vacuum White Noise?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I was listening to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on C-SPAN early this morning. Before the hearing began, Ezra was restless and kicking around. He didn’t want to relax. Nothing could get him to calm down. Then minutes after the hearing began Ezra was a sleep, and Ezra didn’t wake up until two hours later when I turned off the committee hearing. Amazing? Magical? Or just a natural reaction to listening to rhetoric?
