Hair Washing

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Washing Ezra’s hair use to be an event of pain and suffering for everyone. Ezra would suffer because he hated water being pouring over his head and having any chance of water getting on his face and eyes. We would suffer because would have to make Ezra cry and fuss as we poured water on his head to clean hair and scalp and rinse them.

We tried things to help with the hair washing fuss. We tried special water hat that diverted the pour of water from his face. We tried pouring water only on the back of his head. We tried covering his eyes and pouring water over his face. We tried jumping around and making faces, so he would look-up as water was poured over hair. We tried only using a wet rag.

None of these things worked at the time. Well, they haven’t worked for the past couple years. But now. NOW. Thanks to trust and imagination, Ezra doesn’t have much fuss with the hair washing because he doesn’t fuss much when a rag is put over his eyes. And he looks-up with the rag over eyes when -v- asks him to look-up and asks him what color a plane he sees. Last hair wash, the airplane was yellow. And his hair was cleaned without fuss or crying.

CRAZY! Hair

-v- and I have been talking for months how Ezra will probably be able to easily maintain a flat top, a mowhawk, or some messy chatic emo kid hair do with his natural cow licks.

Ezra’s cow lick on the left side of his head twists counter clockwise. Ezra’s cow lick on the right side of his head twist clockwise. Both cow licks meet in the middle of the head and push hair to flow up and stick up on the back top half of head. Even as the hair grows longer the hair remains sticking up from the back of head sort of like peacock plume. But this plume fans forward and lays flat before the brow.

We have tried only water to tame Ezra’s crazy hair, but mere water will not tame Ezra’s hair. For now, we don’t mind is crazy hair. Hopefully, -v- and I will be able to help Ezra come to love and find ways to style his crazy hair.

Ezra’s Cow Licks

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

When I was growing up, I was taught to call natural swirls in the hair that causes the hair to stick-up Cow Licks. Cow Licks look like the tip of a tornado touched the head and made the hair swirl. They look like a cow licked your head and caused the hair swirl and flow the other way.

I had Cow Licks and tried for years to tame them with hairspray or hair gel. I even had my hair long partly to not have cow licks. I have grown up and realized there isn’t enough hair product or hair length to tame Cow Licks.

I hope to teach what I have learned from my Cow Licks to Ezra, so when Ezra gets the age when he cares about his hair I can tell him that his Cow Licks are cool as long as he finds the right style. And I will note to him how cool his Cow Licks are because they form an infinity sign on the back top of his head (as -v- noted the other).
