Prince Ezra Sleeps

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Some time during the past couple of days Ezra has been called Prince Ezra by -v- and I. I have been thinking this and calling him Prince Ezra for days. Days after needing to carry Prince Ezra around to prevent him from entering in to a fussy fit of snot and tears when X reason was causing Prince Ezra to be in a fussy fit of snot and tears. I have called him Prince Ezra after waking for the third or forth time during the night to try to calm a  crying and fussy Prince Ezra from calling out for his parents. I have called him Prince Ezra while he was sitting on his high chair throwing one toy after another on to the floor only wanting another toy to throw on the floor.

Now Prince Ezra sleeps. In fact, Prince Ezra may have gone back to the kingdom. His mood today is less Prince Ezra like and more like the Ezra I know and enjoy. The Ezra that doesn’t need to be attached to -v- or I to sleep, be calm, eat, sit, stand or exist. The Ezra that sleeps through most of the night. The Ezra that wakes with loud talking noises and not loud screams and shouts. The Ezra that smiles more than frowns.  The Ezra that sleeps through most the night for more than one night.

Only time will tell if Prince Ezra is truly gone. Even if Prince Ezra returns, I will love him all the same as I love Ezra. I am after all King.

It’s here: Tooth #4

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

There is no denying that Tooth #4 is. Now it is seen with the other three front teeth poking out of the gums giving a clear future of Ezra looking like a beaver for a short time.

Now that the teething of Tooth #4 is complete and the tooth exists, the tension from the teething of Tooth #4 has faded, and Ezra seems to not be bothered by very intense teething during sleep or before sleeping.

Unfortunately, as soon as one cause of sleeplessness goes away another another comes to be. This time another daycare cough kept Ezra awake last night. The cough has been developing since Wednesday. Everything about Ezra’s health is good except for a cough that woke him up last night making everyone’s sleep shorter than wanted.

Tooth #4 is here and the daycare cough will fade, too, so maybe some time during the next week we will all sleep during the entire night for more than one night. I do believe, however, more teeth are soon on the way for he is beginning to try to shove objects further into the mouth to chew upon the deeper regions of the gums, so it could come to pass that we will not be sleeping the entire night for a few years.

And Then There Was Diarrhea…

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

The vomiting has given way to diarrhea. Lots of diarrhea. He’s pooped five times since I have been home and about sixteen times total. His butt is developing a rash that makes changing the diaper a delicate dance of trying not to cause too much pain to Ezra.

He is now eating and keeping everything down. He has only vomited once today, and that was after having some orange flavor Pedialyte that probably didn’t taste good to Ezra. Now the only liquids shooting from body is the diarrhea out his butt.

Return of Snot Nose Ezra

Monday, December 17th, 2007

It appears Ezra doesn’t have Viral Meningitis, but he does have a snotty nose again. A snotty nose that had -v- and I waking four times (that I remember) last night to suck the snot from Ezra’s nose.

Every time we were woken by loud snotty exhales mixed with fussy cries of Ezra . Once awake, -v- would grab Ezra from the bassinet and lay him face-up over her lap. Then she would push in on the base of the snot sucker, aim and insert the tip of snot sucker up Ezra’s nose. Then she would release the base of the snot sucker creating a vacuum that filled the snot sucker with air and snot of Ezra.

I did wake up each time. I gave encouragement and told Ezra we are sorry about sucking snot from his nose and that we had to do it, so we could all sleep. A couple of times, early in the morning, I had to gently hold his head, so he could not turn head side to side to evade the snot sucker from entering his nose.

We all woke up tired.

Sick w/Baby = Difficult

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Ezra, -v-, and I are still sick. We are still feeling the daycare sickness. The good thing is Ezra is still smiling and doesn’t have a fever. His temperature is at 98.1 degrees. He has a cold like -v- and I. The bad thing is that having a cold makes being a parent a little more difficult.

When you are sick and a parent, you can no longer just lay on the couch with the blanket over your head and sleep and stare into oblivion. You can no longer call into work and say that you are sick and thus removing any responsibility of the day allowing you to eat chicken noodle soup and watch videos while you blow your nose and feel sorry for yourself. You can no longer sleep in or sleep early in an effort to get better.

When you are sick and a parent, you still need to feed the baby, talk with the baby, play with the baby, burp the baby, change diapers of the baby, and show the baby that life is good. And when the baby is sick, you still need to suck the snot from the baby’s nose, check the baby’s temperature, make sure the baby is comfortable even if you are sick.

It’s hard. It is another lesson of how much parents deserve respect because I wanted to do nothing but cover my head in a blanket today and sleep everything away, but I could not.

Snot Nose Family

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

-v- and I woke up with snot filled noses and sore throats this morning. Thus begins a life time of catching colds and fevers Ezra brings home from daycare and school. I can only hope that all the sicknesses that are spread from kid to kid to kid to Ezra are as light and painless as the sickness we are experiencing now.

Ezra seems to be doing okay with having this snot nose. He has smiled just as much as he normally does. He has been awake just as much as he normal is. He has been as much fun to be with as he usually is. The only thing he still hates is having the snot and boogers sucked from nose, but until he learns to blow his nose he will have to live with the snot sucker. Unfortunately, once he does learn to blow his own nose he will likely learn that feeling like we feel sucks and won’t smile as much as he has today.
