Watching Cars Loosens Thighs of Steel

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

When Ezra is being carried on hip and not wanting to be put down, his legs clamp kidney and side of stomach. His body tenses, and the more one pries Ezra from hip and stomach the more the thighs press against stomach.

This usually happens when we are outside, and he doesn’t want to walk all the way to the main street or the busy intersection to watch cars.

Fortunately, while watching cars, he doesn’t feel to need to be held as long as cars are passing allowing his thighs of steel to rest and my numb back sore form holding him to relax.

Two Steps!

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Ezra took two steps, all by himself, today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was standing between me and grandma O, then he walked two steps to get to grandma!

But, he still seems to prefer crawling to get from point A to point B quickly : )

Still Standing Alone

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Ezra still stands alone. He stands with a smile and a wavering uncertainty of what he is to do next. He stands now for seconds at a time for many times during the day. And he is even now taking a few sliding steps.

Falls are controlled plummets to butt that end with a small thud. These falls don’t incite tears or fussing only crawling to the nearest vertical surface, so he can crawl to a stand and walk around.

Next to come: Walking without support! And more work for -v- and me.

Sitting From A Stand

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Now that Ezra has learned crawling to a stand, he is learning sitting from a stand. The act of sitting from a stand is an act that isn’t yet perfected. It’s a controlled fall upon his butt. His technique is improving.

At first, sitting from a stand was a direct fall from standing that was like a tree falling in the forest. This usually resulted in him falling flat and possibly causing pain he could only express with a quick whimper. Then he learned to control the fall from a stand to land on his butt. This technique has helped avoid any major trauma, but does have the occasional misfall that makes the journey to butt continue with the head to the floor. NOW, Ezra is beginning to bend his knees and lower his butt so butt hovers over the ground before he lets gravity take over and finish the process of going from standing position to a sitting position. This technique lessens the changes of any fall trauma and seems to be furthering his overall desire to stand and walk and sit.

Falling Down

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Ezra sits. Ezra crawls. Ezra stands. Ezra falls down.

His big head almost always hits first for his big head his heavy. And the big head being proportionally bigger than the body, and it being wider than the span from back to chest, it leads the way down to the floor. And even when the body hits first the head usually whips fast to the ground to give a quick smack to the face or back of head that can shock me.

Most of the falls now are when crawling or sitting on the hardwood floor. The falls are the result of Ezra slipping and falling fast on the floor. …On the hardwood floor, one can see the head bounce. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen often, or I would probably be buying Ezra a helmet, which given the fact he has a healthy skull could be a bit much. The body needs to learn to take a knock on the head from slipping or stumpling because after a slip or a stumble Ezra is a little more careful performing the same maneuver and more aware of gravity.

Crawling To A Stand

Monday, March 24th, 2008

With the help of vertical surface or a small platform, Ezra can lift self from sitting position to crawling position to standing position. He uses his ever evolving crawling techniques to climb the side of a vertical surface, so he may stand.

Last night he want to crawl to stand a lot. In fact, he seemed to wanted to crawl to a stand all night, hours past bedtime. He was happiest when he was standing with arms braced against some surface helping to balance self.
